What is Respite?
Who needs Respite?
The very definition of respite means a short period of rest. Anyone caring for a child with special needs will benefit from some kind of respite. Our respite weekends are also very valuable for the children with special needs. Time away from their parents in a safe and supportive environment allows for personal growth and independence. In addition, children have the opportunity to try new things and explore what it means to be with people their own age.
Respite is beneficial for:
-
Parents of children with special needs
-
Adoptive and foster parents
-
Families of children in transition
-
Children with special needs looking for a safe and nurturing environment where they can enjoy a fun weekend while gaining independence and socialization
About our Respite Weekends
Our Respite Weekends are available to campers ages 8 and up with both physical and/or developmental special needs. The respite weekend will offer a small retreat for campers with activities including;
arts and crafts, baking, nature walks, teambuilding, games, adaptable sport activities, cooking and more!
Respite weekends will focus on independence and socialization for campers while allowing families the comfort of knowing their child will be well cared for in a safe and nurturing environment. The program will provide 24-hour nursing care along with staff that are well-trained and knowledgeable in areas of special needs care.
The location for the weekend is in a 64 bed dormitory style cabin with heat and air conditioning. Staff live in the building with the participants. The buildings and grounds of Channel 3 Kids Camp are all wheelchair accessible.
Program runs Saturday to Sunday with meals and housing included in camper stay.
Weekend begins with check in on Saturday no earlier than 9:00 am and check out on
Sunday no later than 2 pm.
